Benner Holsteins is a family farm involving brothers Peter, Burt & Donald Penner, along with Don’s wife Shirley and their children, Tim , Scott, Laurie and husband Kevin Funk. We also employ two herdsmen, Peter Fehr & Menno Kornelsen.Don, Peter & Burt took over the farm in 1988 after being in partnership for 11 years with their father Ben, who bought the farm’s first registered Holsteins in 1973.Our herd consists of 800 head. We farm a total of 1300 acres, 500 acres of alfalfa, 400 acres of corn, & 300 acres of wheat.Maintaining a balanced breeding program is not easy. It’s fairly easy to have milk or type, but to get the two together is tough. We at Benner Holsteins strive to match the right bulls on the right cows and try to improve our type and production. We are very cautious and don’t just add numbers.
